A dime a dozen – nešto uobičajno, svakidašnje


Plastic toys like these are a dime a dozen.

Better late than never – bolje ikad nego nikad


“He finally paid me the money he owed me.” “Well, better late than never.”

Break a leg – srećno


His family told him to “break a leg” right before he went up on stage.

Call it a day – prekinuti nešto jer ste umorni ili ne želite više to da radite


I’m getting a bit tired now – let’s call it a day.

Cut somebody some slack – ne biti toliko kritičan prema nekome


He is late again.” “Cut him some slack – his wife just had a baby.”

Get your act together – organizovati se, kako biste mogli nešto efikasnije i bolje uraditi


She’s so disorganized – I wish she’d get her act together.

Give somebody the benefit of the doubt – verovati u ono što Vam neko priča


She said she was late because her flight had been canceled, and we gave her the benefit of the doubt.

Hang in there – ne odustati uprkos poteškoćama


Work can get tough in the middle of a term but hang in there and it’ll be OK.

 It is not rocket science – nije komplikovano uraditi ili razumeti nešto


My coach always said, “Basketball is not rocket science. It’s about putting the ball in the basket.”

 Let someone off the hook – osloboditi nekog krivice ili obaveze, ne kazniti ga zbog nečega što je načinio


I was meant to spend the weekend cleaning out the garage, but my wife let me off the hook so I could go on the big fishing trip with my friends.

 Make a long story short – ispričati nešto ukratko, bez nepotrebnih detalja


Long story short, I got fired.

 No pain no gain – bez muke nema nauke


A: This exercise is so difficult!
B: Yeah but it’ll help you lose weight. As they say, no pain, no gain!

 Speak of the devil – mi o vuku, a vuk na vrata


Did you hear what happened to the teacher yesterday? Oh, speak of the devil, here she is.

 That is the last straw – kap koja je prelila čašu


She’s always been rude to me, but it was the last straw when she started insulting my mother.

 Time flies when you are having fun – vreme brzo prolazi u dobrom društvu, kada se zabavljate


A: I cannot believe it is 4 o’clock already.
B: Well, time flies when you are having fun.

 Cutting corners – raditi nešto na brzinu, hvatati prečicu


Don’t cut corners on this project – it has to be done thoroughly, no matter the cost.

 You can say that again – u pravu si, apsolutno se slažem sa tobom


“‘The weather’s been bad.’ ‘You can say that again!’”

 Barking up the wrong tree –  moliti se u pogrešnoj crkvi


You’re barking up the wrong tree if you think he can help you.

 Bite off more than you can chew –  preuzeti preveliki posao ili obavezu na sebe


I would like to suggest you that don’t bite off more than you can chew by accepting the job offer.
